    Description
    This is a surviving, scarce, low mintage, silver,
    "One Half Gulden"
    from the
    "Kingdom of
    Württemberg"
    in Germany. It was struck at Stuttgart in 1838 during the reign of King Wilhelm I.
    Wilhelm as a young man fought as an ally of Napoleon. The Württemberg troops were decimated during the famous Russian campaign. After the
    “Battle of Leipzig”
    in 1813 Württemberg switched sides and Wilhelm here attended the
    “Congress of Vienna”
    .
    Wilhelm succeeded as King in 1816. He was a reformer and turned Württemberg into a constitutional state during his reign. He ruled until his death in 1864.
    Weight: 5.25 Gram, 24 Millimeter, .900 Silver. Mintage: 823,666.
