Description

Up for sale is an 1865 Germany Thaler.
This coin was given to veterans of the Waterloo battle as part of pension payments.
NGC-certified, AU Details grade: the "environmental damage" refers to the little black spot to the right of the ear. Not really noticeable, to be honest with you.
A very low mint issue, a scarce type! Only 15,000 were minted.
The coin has a very pleasant patina - I tried to capture it with my photos, but it is hard to do, better to see in person under natural light.

The
Battle of Waterloo
was fought on Sunday 18 June 1815 near Waterloo in present-day Belgium. An Imperial French army under the command of Emperor Napoleon was defeated by combined armies of the Seventh Coalition, an Anglo-Allied army under the command of the Duke of Wellington combined with a Prussian army under the command of Gebhard von Blücher. It was the culminating battle of the Waterloo Campaign and Napoleon’s last. The defeat at Waterloo put an end to Napoleon’s rule as Emperor of the French and marked the end of his Hundred Days' return from exile.
