    Description

    The Alpha Plus™
Binder Insert is Hardcore Defense's newest offering for individual active shooter protection.  Backpack inserts are great, but can't protect the owner if the backpack is in a school locker or the back of the classroom when an incident occurs.  A binder has the best chance of being with the user when needed, in the backpack or otherwise.  The
    Alpha Plus™
Binder Insert also works great with or without a binder in a briefcase or laptop bag.
    Specifications:
    NIJ Special Type rated*:
7.62x39 mm 123 grain FMJ at 2300 fps
5.56x45 mm 55 grain FMJ at 2700 fps
    9.0" x 11.25"
    < 3/16" thick
    4 lbs weight
Three holes for insertion into standard 3-ring binders
Premium medium-gloss dark blue powder coat for aesthetic appearance and corrosion protection
No shelf life limit!  Steel does not break down over time like ballistic fiber products do.
    * Tested by an independent test lab in accordance with NIJ Standard 0108.1, using the NIJ III test protocol but with the threat rounds specified above.  Test report available upon request.
"Alpha Plus" protection builds on our proven Alpha Shield performance with a slightly thicker and even stronger ballistic panel.  It provides full protection against handguns and buckshot, and resists 7.62x39 mm AK fire up to 2300 fps and 5.56x45 mm AR fire up to 2700 fps.  For those of you who aren't ballistics nerds like we are, those velocities will cover almost all AK fire and some AR fire.  Long barrel ARs and those using high pressure ammunition will penetrate on a square hit at close range.  However in real world situations in which shots come from a distance, strike at an angle, or pass through intervening materials (windows, walls, books in the backpack), the perpendicular strike velocity can be well under the 2700 fps.  Hollowpoint and soft point ammo also has poorer penetration than full metal jacket ammo used for ballistic testing.
The Alpha Plus™ protection level provides the best balance of ballistic resistance, bulk and cost for this application.
A full NIJ Level III rifle plate made from steel would be much too heavy for daily use, while a ceramic or ballistic fiber panel would be an inch thick, cost hundreds dollars, and still weigh more than the Alpha Plus™ Binder Insert.  The Alpha Plus™ is thin, reasonably inexpensive - especially considering it has no shelf life limit - and weighs only 4 pounds.  That's only 2/3 the weight of our best selling Alpha Insert plate, and the Alpha Plus™ provides greatly superior ballistic resistance!
Note that any steel plate protects better than a similarly-rated soft armor panel.  The NIJ standards for soft armor were designed with a frontal chest shot to an adult male in mind;  the same blunt trauma applied to someone's back could result in a devastating spinal injury.
The Alpha Plus™ Binder Insert can also be used as a torso plate as needed, either in a standard plate carrier, or hung on a rope or chain from the binder holes.
Purchaser is responsible for complying with all local, state, and federal laws regarding purchase and use of ballistic protection products.  Hardcore Defense assumes no liability for illegal use or misuse of the product.
Ebay required wording to list:  "This model complies with NIJ Standard-0101.06 for Ballistic Resistance of Body Armor"  Hardcore Defense pointed out to them this is the wrong standard for shields (we use a similar NIJ 0108.01) but changing it seemed outside of their ability.  Trust us, our product is NIJ IIIA per the government testing standard appropriate for ballistic shields.
